1 – What is this thing?
A Certain Place is a mini-conference. It is a conversation. It is a gathering of creative hearts and minds seeking commonality. It is beginning this year with a vision for the future–a collaborative community believing creativity and faith go hand in hand. We will spend two and a half days in the Amish country of Ohio engaging in conversation and learning revolving around the arts and how they interact with issues of faith, hope, and love.

Think about spending time with some really good friends at a cabin in the woods talking about some of the things you feel most passionate about. Add in some specific conversation starters and a few creative experiments and you’ve about got it.

2 – How much does it cost?
Cost will be $150/person and will cover the entirety of lodging.  Our food costs will be shared and most meals will be taken together.

3 – What will the weekend look like?
Everyone should plan to arrive Friday evening. We will spend the evening orienting ourselves and laying some groundwork to our time and themes together. Saturday will be filled with conversation and collaboration. Sunday we will worship together in a “house-church” sort of way as we wrap up our time.

4 – What about this “theme thing”?
Our idea is to build our weekend around a common theme (this will be revealed a little later on). Our hope is that all participants in the weekend will use the theme as a launching point for bringing some type of creative piece to the weekend. This could be a song, a painting, a writing, or any other element you’d like to contribute. If possible, we’d like to make it available for all participants to share these with each other. More details will be coming soon!

5 – Can we invite others?
Yes! We will be limiting numbers to no more than 15, but we would love to have multiple perspectives and participants. The deadline to sign up will be September 1, 2011.
